Caring for our Environment
Water
Conservation
We
use
Satinjet showerheads – not only an
improved shower experience, but use up to 40% less water than standard
showerheads. We also have water restrictors on all
bathroom vanity taps.
Our toilets feature dual
flush buttons, allowing guests to use less water for flushing as
required.
We have implemented a towel
re-use policy where guests are encouraged to hang-up the towels they are
happy to reuse during their stay. This cuts down on water, chemicals and
energy.
The contents of our bathroom
amenities contain no animal by-products, are 100% Bio-degradable, and
made from GE Free ingredients.
Energy
Conservation
Energy
controllers are used to reduce unnecessary power use when guests are not
in their rooms.
Where
possible we use long-life energy efficient light fittings and lightbulbs.
Recycling & Waste
Newspapers are not delivered to rooms to avoid unnecessary waste when
guests do not want to receive a newspaper.
Paper and
cardboard boxes are recycled at all hotels. We are implementing a wider
recycling project for glass, plastics and cans, with a Recycling Station
now installed at our Hamilton hotel for guest and hotel use.
When refurbishing rooms, bedspreads and drapes are donated to charities
and local organisations including The Curtain Bank (www.heet.co.nz)
which puts curtains into homes without adequate window coverings.
Recognition
We are in
the process of having all hotels undergo a sustainability audit by a
recognised agency to demonstrate our sustainable business practices and
find areas for further improvement. Our progress will be updated here in
the near future.
